Tattoo Aftercare Guide
For best healing and lasting ink:
Your body just went through something sacred — and now it’s time to care for it with presence and love. This isn’t just wound care. It’s a ritual of integration.
✨ First 24 Hours
Your tattoo will be wrapped when you leave the studio. Keep the wrap (3–24 hours) or Second Skin (5 days), depending on what we discussed.
When it’s time to remove your Second Skin bandage, gently lift a bottom corner and slowly pull down and away from your skin—not upward. Taking it off in the shower with warm water can help loosen the adhesive and make removal more comfortable. If it feels stuck, go slow—no need to rush.
When you remove the wrap, wash your hands and gently clean the tattoo with lukewarm water and a fragrance-free, gentle cleanser (I recommend Vanicream or Dial Gold).
Pat dry with a clean paper towel — no rubbing.
Let it breathe for an hour or two before applying aftercare.
🌿 Ongoing Care (Days 2–14)
What to use:
A thin layer of unscented ointment or tattoo balm (like Hustle Butter, Aquaphor, or a gentle natural balm) for the first 3–5 days.
Switch to a light lotion (unscented, no alcohol or fragrance) as the skin begins to peel.
What to avoid:
No scratching or picking — let flakes fall off naturally.
No soaking (baths, pools, hot tubs) or direct sun for at least 2 weeks.
Avoid tight clothing that rubs against your tattoo.
Watch for:
Minor redness and itchiness is normal.
If you notice swelling, pus, or prolonged heat/redness, text me or contact a healthcare provider.
🌞 Aftercare for the Long Run
Hydrate your skin consistently — well-moisturized skin = long-lasting tattoos.
Wear SPF 30+ on your healed tattoo daily. Sun = fading.
Give yourself 2–4 weeks before strenuous workouts or skin treatments in that area.
Need a Touch-Up?
Your tattoo needs to be fully healed before I can go back into the skin—that means at least 4 weeks. Going in too early risks damaging the skin or causing scarring, so it’s important to give your body time.If anything feels off during healing or you’re unsure about something, don’t hesitate to text me. I’m happy to take a look and help guide you.
🖤 If This Tattoo Was Emotional or Energetic Work:
You may feel unexpected emotions or body sensations in the days after. Be gentle with yourself. Drink water, journal, sleep. Let the mark become part of you.
